Removing streaks on stainless steel refrigerator after cleaning

Question:

I just cleaned this stainless steel refrigerator with a couple of those all purpose "safe for stainless steel" disposable cloths. I was horrified to see that it left silver streaks all over it. I read that this happens, and to use a little oil on it. I tried polishing it (just with veggie oil) and it looks a little different but still streaky. :( I heard vinegar helps but I don't want to keep throwing different liquids on it. What should I do?

Try actual cleaner for stainless steel. The wipes aren't any better than the ones for glass. You might want to try cleaning the streaks with rubbing alcohol on a cloth until you can get some real SS cleaner. I used that on the display pieces & it works pretty well.

Other answer:

There is a new VOC free cleaner found on www.Bioworx.us Their VOC free glass and surface cleaner leaves stoves, refrigerators, dishwashers and other stainless steel products streak free. I I always use a microfiber cloth with their glass and surface cleaner. A word of caution, be careful not to use strong cleaners on stainless steel, or you may permanently damage the surface. Never use sodium hypochlorite (bleach) on stainless steel, it will damage the surface.

This is beyond awesome! I have tried every stainless steel cleaner, microfiber cloth, and most recently, vinegar, to no avail. At first I tried the olive oil and then finished with the vinegar, and vigorous buffing. Looked exactly the same. Then, I figured out to leave the oil on the fridge and not buff it out. It DOES look brand new, I am ecstatic. Thanks to you and your tip! Amazing what damage a simple dribble of water can do from the icemaker down the side of your fridge.
