If my old penknife has tarnished, is it carbon steel?

I.e., one that would make sparks when used with flint or quartz?

The blade could be fabbed from heat treated 400 series stainless steel.

Remember : stainless steel is not really "stainless'.............it is better descibed as "corrosion resistant steel"
