What does it mean when a lock pick has a "Metal" or "Stainless Steel" handle?
I am shopping for a good set of lock picks and I have run into some confusion. Some lock picks are advertised as having "metal" or "stainless steel" handles, while others do not have that advertised.

Stainless steel is a type of metal that is more resistant to corrosion than normal steel. If you are using these in a salt air environment or any environment that has dissimilar metals in an electrolytic solution, you will get corrosion, but stainless steel will corrode less, and slower.

Will a "stainless steel" wallet really block RFID?
I want to know before I drop almost $ 100 on a stainless steel wallet if it really does act like a Faraday cage in your pocket and block RFID transmissions. But, with a little more investigation into RFID on your part you will find out that this ‘technology’ can and is very invasive into your privacy.

Question by some guy i don't know.: Interested in buying Rukia Kuchiki's zanpakuto?

So i found this sword on ebay, and i've been looking around for a while and im interested in buying rukia kuchiki's zakpakuto from the anime series, Bleach. I would like it to be "battle ready" and im trying to find one made out of carbon steel, so that the blade wont break easily, like stainless steel does. the only thing im worried about, from this sword i found was that it said "Low temper carbon steel" and im not sure if "low temper carbon steel" is good, or if its just slightly better than stainless. thanks for the help, this is the link

I don't really know why you need a "battle ready" metal zanpakuto but as you wish.

Stainless Steel Problem?

If stainless steel is indeed stainless, why do we have products that clean stainless steel??

Calling it "stainless" is a slight exaggeration, because it will react with the environment and can be attacked by acids, bases, salts, so it should be called "resistive steel" or something similar.

Sailboats have lots of stainless steel hardward on them, but salt water sailors allmost always rinse off their boats with fresh water after their hardware is exposed to a salty environment.

Hāngi (pronounced [ˈhaːŋi]) is a traditional New Zealand Māori method of cooking food using heated rocks buried in a pit oven still used for special occasions.

To "lay a hāngi" or "put down a hāngi" involves digging a pit in the ground, heating stones in the pit with a large fire, placing baskets of food on top of the stones, and covering everything with earth for several hours before uncovering (or lifting) the hāngi.

There are many variations and details that can be altered. Hāngi "experts" have developed and improved methods that often, like the stones themselves, have been handed down for generations. Another name sometimes used is umu, for instance the umu tī, used in the South Island to cook Cabbage trees (Cordyline australis).

Prior to colonisation and the introduction of metals and wire, food was laid out on clean sticks, bark, large leaves and other vegetation to minimize direct contact with the hot rocks and reduce burning. Carved bowls and flat rocks were also used for this purpose. Leaves, sticks and vegetation were used to cover the food and to prevent crushing from the weight of the earth on top.

Many different hāngi methods are now used. Wire baskets became widely used in the early 19th century with sacking and cloth replacing leaves and bark as the covering of choice.

In the early 21st century, gas heated stainless steel "hāngi machines" are sometimes used to replicate the style of cooking without the need for a wood fire, rocks and a pit.

It is almost meaningless to say 'able to pull 10mm thick stainless steel". However it does give the indication that it is probably heavy, and needs significant force. The stroke is the distance it moves (50mm) and the pull is the force.

You need to state a force, which is in newtons - defined as the force needed to accelerate 1kg by 1m/s/s. A mass of 1kg used as a weight is 9.8N, because the acceleration due to gravity is 9.8m/s/s. You can use this to determine the force. Use a known weight to pull the stainless steel just as you intend the solenoid to do. Use a rope and a pulley to translate the direction of the force of the weight hanging down. Now calculate the force as:
F_Newton = Mass_kg x AccelerationOfGravity_9.8m/s/s
The magnetic force of the solenoid must exceed this at all parts of the stroke.

Typical stronger solenoids with laminated core provide 100N force minimum over 35mm. There are also duty cycles to consider. Many can only be on for a few seconds in a minute. A force of 100N represents about the same force as 10kg in gravity.

If this is not enough, consider other kinds of linear actuators like in the second link. These are typically an electric motor with a screw thread and limit switches, and work from a low voltage DC supply like a car battery. They move more slowly, which might be an advantage. There are also pneumatic (air) and hydraulic actuators. These are specified in kg weight in the link, which is the weight they can lift. Multiply by 9.8 to get newtons, so 41kg means 400N.

It is best to call a local supplier and ask the sales people, they are there to help.

Inox is another term FOR stainless steel.

"stainless steel, also known as inox steel or inox from French "inoxydable", is defined as a steel alloy with a minimum of 10.5[1] or 11% chromium content by mass."

From wikipedia.

As in: in-oxidizable. Not-rustable.
